Welcome to Beyond Asana

The yoga sutras mention Asana (yoga postures) the least of any of the yoga practices, yet in the West, classes are full of Asana with very little attention given to the other aspects of yoga.

Beyond Asana is the yoga site of Darren Deojee (that's me in the picture above) and I do the exact opposite of most teachers: I teach very little Asana, since you can get that almost anywhere, and focus instead on 'the rest' of yoga, which you can't seem to get in most places.

Beyond Asana is the name of the series of workshops I have devised to teach you more about some of the aspects of yoga which are all-too-often neglected. These are in the Raja Yoga tradition of Patanjali, which is the distillation of all other yoga practices and includes all yoga practices from asana to mantra to pranayama etc. You can read more about this by clicking the yoga sutras and 8 limbs links above.

These events are not just a talk-through of 'doing it' like many Asana classes: I will guide you through the 'whys,' 'hows' & obstacles of many yogic practices covering the essence and purpose of them rather than dwelling too much on the individual techniques, which you can find anywhere.

This will arm you with confidence and understanding so you can then approach practice on your own without wondering why you are doing something, or whether you are 'doing it right.'

I will also show you their relevance to modern life in practical terms and how you can take 'yoga' beyond a session on a mat to a powerful tool for learning, behavioural change and personal development in your everyday life - the way it is supposed to be.

Take your yoga beyond the mat: take it Beyond Asana!
